We Are Listening Welcome to the new DentonDemocrats.org

As children, our parents taught us the difference between hearing and listening.  Today, this major problem persists: our current elected officials may let you express your viewpoint, but instead of listening to it, they’re formulating their retort (or worse, an excuse) before you finish your first thought.

We mean to change that.

We didn’t just change our website, DentonDemocrats.org, to make it look better; rather, we redesigned it so people could use our site as a hub to communicate with their elected officials, other constituents, the media, and our party leadership.  We created the site to listen to you, the concerned citizen, while expressing our views.

There are a number of features we have included to accomplish this goal:

The new Vote makes it easy for readers to look up their elected officials and visit their respective contact pages.

You can now visit the Volunteer page if you are interested in aiding our cause.

Our Attend page contains an embedded calendar, updated regularly with events from the DCDP and its clubs.

We listed relevant publications on our Speak Up page, along with a contact link that will allow you to send a letter to the editor of that publication without ever leaving our site.

On our Lead page you’ll find a list of our officers and leaders with contact links to each.  Using any of these will take you to our Contact page.

We have integrated social media tools into every part of the site.  At the bottom of each post, you’ll find a comment form (the same kind used on BarackObama.com) that allows anyone to log in using an account from a major network like Google, Yahoo, Facebook, or Twitter.

Finally, you’ll notice we’ve made it easier to donate to the Denton County Democratic Party using our ActBlue donation page.  Donations of any size are highly appreciated, so please consider contributing today so that we can continue to make positive changes in our communications system.

Constituents are not numbers on a page who must be taught “the right way”.  They are citizens who can teach us much from their perspective.  We are tired of elected officials priding themselves on the fact that they “allow” their constituents to speak to them.  We are the party that will not just hear out our constituents but also respond to them and absorb the information they give us.

In short, we are the Denton County Democratic Party and we are listening.

By the way, the  @DentonCoDems:twitter aren’t the only people listening to constituents.  Today the White House launched its We the People initiative: http://www.whitehouse.gov/wethepeople/ This will allow people to connect socially and voice their concerns to our Federal government.  Check out the video here:
