When Texas Wins in Court, Women Lose

Uninsured women lose in Texas as the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rules that Texas can discontinue funds to Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood is an important organization that provides vital screening, family planning, and other health care services primarily to uninsured middle class and poor women. These women normally have no other resources for needed health care.  Among them are small business owners, contractors, retail and part-time workers. Imagine the long drive and possibly longer wait these mothers, sisters, daughters and wives have to get to one of the scarce women’s clinics across the state.

Although Governor Perry says that Texas will provide funds to keep the Women’s Health Program going, many are rightfully skeptical. A recent article in the Texas Monthly Magazine titled Mothers, Sisters, Daughters, Wives details the hostile attitude against women’s healthcare in the state. We also recommend the North Texas Planned Parenthood website for updates about important matters in women’s health.
