Michele Helfrich and Amy Taylor have rejoined the Denton County Democratic Party (DCDP) to head up a hard-hitting voter registration drive designed to counter the district gerrymandering Republican legislators are rolling out.

“Michele and Amy are seasoned warriors who will help us in our fight to win Democratic seats in Denton County. The unfair gerrymandering by Republicans is an assault on democracy. Michele and Amy’s expertise in turning out the vote will give our Democratic candidates an enormous advantage in the upcoming elections,” says Delia Parker-Mims, the DCDP’s newly elected chair. The massive voter registration initiative that Helfrich and Taylor will coordinate is Fight Back Register 50 and it will launch October 23 in Lewisville.

Helfrich and Taylor spearheaded the DCDP’s coordinated campaign that spread the word about multiple candidates in 2018 and resulted in Michelle Beckley’s election to the Texas House of Representative’s District 65 and Chris Lopez’ election as Justice of the Peace. Afterwards, Helfrich and Taylor began working for Denton Together, a PAC that was instrumental in getting three Democratic candidates elected to Denton City Council and the mayor in the Little Elm municipal race.

Says Taylor, “A strategic initiative focused on registering Democrats is an effective tool. Democratic values are American values, and we need to hear the voices of our fellow Americans, but the Republicans want to make voting harder and want to dilute our voices through partisan gerrymandering. The fact that Republicans will make access to voting a minefield for voters tells us just how scared they are of hearing the voices of the people. When Democrats vote, Democrats win.”

“The Republicans have cracked and split our communities to maintain their power,” notes Helfrich. “They are attempting to silence our voices, but we will Fight Back.”

Parker-Mims says, “I am thrilled to have this dynamic duo within the DCDP. They are strategic, focused, aggressive and absolutely committed to getting Democrats elected.”
